Erasmus+ Workshop in Chania

In Chania/Crete we met our friends from Greece, Spain and Iceland again. Staying at families was a great experience like it was before in Spain. We worked together, explored the Cultural Heritage Sites of Crete together, played together, we ate and drank together and we learned to communicate especially  when our words were not enough.

At the Orthodox Academy we learned about the Cretan Artist El Greco who lived and painted also in Spain.
First we saw how Olive Trees are cared for, Olives are harvested and Olive Oil is produced...

... then we went Olive harvesting ourselves

After the harvest we shared a traditional meal in the village.

Excursion to the
Berlin Collection of GREEK ANTIQUES

The students of the Erasmus+ school club prepared several Quests for the visiting 4th grade students.

The students worked in small groups to identify the painters of antique ceramics by name.

The students noticed the difference of red-figured (left)
and
black-figured (right)  ceramics
                                               >
The most difficult quest was to find the
Fingerprint of the Potterer on one
of the oldest ceramics in the collection.
For some tasks, the children got help from the Erasmus+ students.

Olive oil from Crete

In the local supermarkets we can find Olive Oil
produced by Terra Creta.

The Olice Oil from Crete is labelled as a protected designation of origin.

Making Soap from pure Olive Oil

Our product still has the smell
of Olive Oil.

We made one solid bloc of Soap.

We used pure Olive Oil from Crete and added concetrated NaOH.

Cooking and tasting Greek Delicacies

We cooked with feta, green bell peppers and tomatoes a variation of delicious filo pastries.

When we added OLIVE OIL, the taste was even enhanced.

The dolmadaki and baklavas also came with Olive Oil.

Next to it we drank Greek Tsai and Cretean Mountain Tea.

The Olympian Gods

We explored the legends of Ariadne and Theseus and the Minotauros in his Cretan Labyrinth. When reading and telling the story of Europa and her kidnapping by Zeus, we understood how present all the ancient greek gods are in the legends.
Each diety (goddess and god) holds their special item.
